Invasive streptococcus dysgalactiae endocarditis with extensive multiorgan involvement
We report a rare, severe case of invasive Streptococcus dysgalactiae endocarditis with multiorgan involvement in a middle-aged man with few comorbidities. The patient presented with fever, malaise, and back pain, and was diagnosed with infective endocarditis (IE) involving the mitral valve, septic arthritis, renal and splenic infarctions, septic cerebral emboli, endophthalmitis, and multiple epidural and intramuscular abscesses. Treatment involved prolonged antibiotics and surgical drainage of an elbow abscess. After a prolonged hospital stay and intensive rehabilitation, the patient achieved a favourable outcome.
