CASCADE FREQUENCY DOWNSHIFTING IN THE WAVE SPECTRA IN THE COASTAL ZONE
According to the data of field and laboratory experiments, it is shown that during the evolution of the spectrum of waves propagating over a gentle bottom, there is a cascade downshift of the frequency of the spectrum maximum. This occurs due to nonlinear interactions with infragravity frequencies. The effect of frequency downshifting on sediment transport and spatiotemporal homogeneity of the wave field is discussed.
