Exploring the amazing secrets and numerous medicinal value of Ficus benghalensis Linn (Banyan Trees)

Ficus benghalensis Linn, commonly known as the banyan trees is a significantly medicinal plant in traditional system of medicine like ayurvedic, Unani, and widths. Every part of the tree, including its bark, roots, leaves, fruits, and latex is known for therapeutic properties. Phytochemicals studies reveal that the plant contains various bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, sterols, triterpenoids and tannin. Medicinally, it is used for its antidiabetic, anti- inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial and wound helling properties. The arial root and bark have been traditionally employed to manage diabetes, dysentery, diarrhoea, while the latex is used to treat skin disease and toothache. Recent pharmacological studies support many of these ethano medicinal claims, making Ficus benghalensis a potential source for developing novel herbal therapies. Further clinical research is needed to validate its efficacy and safety in modern medicinal practice.
