Research on Virtual Vibration Drilling Method Based on Sliding Mode Control
ABSTRACT Vibration‐assisted drilling (VAD) is widely employed in micro‐deep hole machining to address issues such as tearing and burrs caused by excessive cutting force. From a motion control perspective, VAD can be achieved by intentionally superimposing periodic sinusoidal ultrasonic vibration along the drilling feed direction. This paper proposes a novel method for VAD based on an improved sliding mode algorithm to control the feed motor. The conventional exponential reaching law is enhanced by incorporating power terms of the system state and absolute values of the sliding surface, thereby intentionally inducing controlled motor speed fluctuations to modulate the drill bit's trajectory to achieve VAD. While conventional research focuses on suppressing sliding mode‐induced speed fluctuations due to their impact on system stability, this paper strategically employs these fluctuations to achieve VAD.
