Lucian's influence on (the thought and life of) Thomas More: a question revisited

This study examines the reception of Lucian by Thomas More, with particular reference to his Utopia, in the light of some of the new theses proposed by Ross Dealy, which entail a considerable change of perspective on the issues involved. The analysis will attempt to be contrastive: data will be provided from the life and work of the English humanist—these are the two main poles around which Dealy's analysis pivots—as well as from the arguments of other scholars. The analysis reveals some (in)consistencies in both the content and methodology of Dealy's book, as well as some necessary issues for future research.
