Comparative evaluation of the efficacy of bonding agents in cervical cavities after using desensitizing agents: an in vitro study
Introduction: Dentinal hypersensitivity is a painful condition of multifactorial etiology. The use of desensitiz ing agents has been incorporated as a routine approach in most adhesive restorative procedures irrespective of bonding agent. However, the effect of desensitizers on bond strength is still controversial. Objectives: To evaluate and compare the pullout bond strength of 5 th and 7 th generation bonding agents after using two desensitizing agents.Material and methods: Twentyfour extracted teeth were collected and stored in saline.Class V cavities were prepared using SI47 diamond points. After dentin conditioning, samples were randomly divided into two groups.Group A: treatment with Shield Activ -subgroup 1A: application of 5 th generation bonding agent, sub group 2A: application of 7 th generation bonding agent.Group B: treatment with Gluma, subgroup 1B -appli cation of 5 th generation bonding agent, subgroup 2B: application of 7 th generation bonding agent. The cavities were then restored with composites, and samples were subjected to pullout bond strength testing using universal testing machine. Results: When comparing the pullout bond strength of group A, it was found that subgroup 2A (Shield Activ + Single Bond Universal) performed better. When comparing the pullout bond strength of group B, subgroup 2B (Gluma+ Single Bond Universal) performed better. When comparing the pullout bond strength of all groups, subgroup 2B (Gluma + Single Bond Universal) performed the greatest. Conclusions: Gluma with Single Bond Universal shows the highest value of the pullout bond strength.
