The Effects of High-Risk Newborn Emergency Care Simulation Training on Graduating Nursing Students

This study is a single-group pre-post experimental study to investigate the effects of emergency care simulation training for high-risk newborns on nursing students' learning satisfaction, clinical reasoning competency, problem-solving proactiveness, the correlation between variables, and the influencing factors of problem-solving proactiveness.Using a structured questionnaire, data were collected from 4th-year nursing students who completed clinical practice in a local nursing department.Data analysis was performed using SPSS/WIN 24.0, with descriptive statistics, paired t-test for pre-and post-education differences, t-test and ANOVA for differences in variables according to subjects' general characteristics, Pearson's correlation coefficients for correlations between variables, multiple regression analysis was conducted to identify the influencing factors of problem-solving proactiveness.Schffe's test was used for post-hoc analysis. The results showed that clinical reasoning competency and problemsolving proactiveness were improved after simulation training, and learning satisfaction was high.Learning satisfaction had a significant strong positive correlation with clinical reasoning competency and problem-solving proactiveness.Clinical reasoning competency and problem-solving proactiveness also had a strong positive relationship.Learning satisfaction and clinical reasoning competency were influencing factors of problem-solving proactiveness, and the model's explanatory power was 73.1%.Therefore, various teaching strategies of simulation training are required in the curriculum as an educational strategy to increase learning satisfaction and cultivate clinical reasoning competency to foster problem-solving proactiveness in nursing students.
