Screen time and obesity in young people
The prevalence of obesity among youth contributes to the global burden of chronic diseases over the life course, which is largely attributed to environments that promote excess body weight. This review focuses on the impact of screen time on the health and nutritional hygiene of young people. Excessive screen media use is associated with junk food consumption and snacking, low physical activity, and poor sleep quality. Bidirectional associations of the risk factors for obesity development were verified. The development of current recommendations and effective prevention strategies is crucial for screen time rationing and prevention of adverse consequences in the form of excess body weight. Key words: youth, obesity, nutrition, sleep, physical activity, screen time
