MENINGKATKAN KOMUNIKASI MATEMATIS DENGAN PBL BERBANTUAN MATCHA MATH CARD PADA MATERI FUNGSI KUADRAT SISWA X – 5 SMA NEGERI PAKUSARI

Mathematical communication skills are essential competencies in 21st-century learning that need to be developed through contextual, collaborative, and interactive methods. However, observations conducted in class X-5 of SMA Negeri Pakusari indicate that students still struggle to communicate mathematical concepts, particularly in the topic of quadratic functions. This study aims to improve students’ mathematical communication skills by implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model supported by the Matcha Math Card media. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis & McTaggart model, consisting of two cycles with the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 37 students of class X-5 at SMA Negeri Pakusari, with instruments including essay tests, observation sheets, and field notes. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ mathematical communication skills. The average score increased from 58,92 in the pre-cycle to 69,7 in the first cycle, and reached 86,49 in the second cycle, with a classical completeness rate of 100%. This improvement was observed not only in cognitive aspects but also in the learning process, such as increased learning interest, active participation in discussions, and students’ ability to express ideas logically and systematically. Thus, the implementation of Problem Based Learning supported by the Matcha Math Card has proven effective in enhancing students’ mathematical communication skills. This model has the potential to be more widely applied across various mathematical topics and educational levels to improve critical thinking and communication skills in mathematics learning.
