A novel partial discharge sensor based on Ce/Tb co-doped fluorescent silica fiber
This work introduces a novel fiber optics sensor based on cerium (Ce) and terbium (Tb) co-doped fluorescent (CTDF) fiber for partial discharge (PD) detection in high-voltage (HV) power systems. CTDF was fabricated using a rod-in-tube (RIT) technique combined with CO2 laser heating, achieving efficient energy transfer between Ce3+ and Tb3+ ions, resulting in an intense emission at 542nm. Experimental studies demonstrated that the CTDF fiber sensor effectively detects PD signals under various conditions, providing a stable and reliable solution for real-time PD monitoring. This sensor presents significant potential for enhancing the safety and efficiency of HV equipment.
