Utilizing 3.6μm mid-IR fibre lasers beams for thermal lensing compensation in LIGO detectors

Power scaling in LIGO (Laser Interferometric Gravitational Observatory) is limited by thermal lensing in the interferometer’s test masses. We propose using mid-IR, 3.6μm fibre laser reflected off spatial light modulators to counteract the distortion.

Abstract

Power scaling in LIGO (Laser Interferometric Gravitational Observatory) is limited by thermal lensing in the interferometer’s test masses. We propose using mid-IR, 3.6μm fibre laser reflected off spatial light modulators to counteract the distortion.
