Effect of Standard Drug Treatment on Coronary Artery Disease Secondary to Moyamoya Disease
It has been reported that patients with moyamoya disease have a high prevalence of coronary artery disease. However, appropriate drug treatment for coronary artery disease in patients with moyamoya disease has not yet been established. We observed a case in which an inflammatory plaque in a patient with coronary artery disease associated with moyamoya disease was treated with high-dose statins, antiplatelet drugs, and vasodilators, and the plaque characteristics were evaluated before and after treatment using optical coherence tomography. One year after the initiation of treatment, optical coherence tomography did not show stabilization of the inflammatory plaque that had been observed before treatment. These findings suggest that standard treatments, such as statins and antiplatelet drugs, may be insufficient to stabilize plaque in patients with coronary artery disease associated with moyamoya disease.
