Incidental Spleen Uptake on 99mTc DMSA for Renal Patient
A 44-year-old woman with a known case of hydroureteronephrosis and multiple small kidney stones was evaluated using a CT scan. The scan also revealed a right adrenal myelolipoma. A 99m Tc DMSA scan was performed to assess renal function. The left kidney demonstrated no activity, indicating a nonfunctional kidney, consistent with findings of atrophy on the CT scan. In addition, incidental high tracer uptake was noted in the spleen. In this case, our radiologist suggested that the observed spleen uptake was due to amyloidosis. Imaging amyloidosis with 99m Tc DMSA should be considered as a diagnostic option.
