Design of a Flower-Shaped Rectangular Slotted Super Wideband Microstrip Antenna

This paper presents a compact, flower-shaped antenna design with a rectangular slot, optimized for super wide-band applications. The antenna dimensions are 45 mm×50 mm× 1.6 mm, featuring a microstrip line feed, flower-shaped patches, and a rectangular slot measuring 16 mm × 6 mm. Its design and performance were evaluated using finite element method (FEM) tools, such as HFSS, to ensure excellent performance in terms of bandwidth, impedance matching, radiation pattern, far-field directivity, return loss, and gain. The antenna’s dimensions and materials were optimized through extensive analyses, including variations in layers, materials, and slot sizes. FR4 epoxy was selected as the substrate material for its cost-effectiveness and suitability for high-frequency applications, while copper was used for the patch and ground plane due to its superior conductivity. The antenna achieves minimal return losses across the frequency range of 3.5 GHz to 27 GHz, maintaining a return loss of −10 dB. Additionally, the Bandwidth Dimension Ratio (BDR) is calculated as 10.44 ×1012 Hz/m2, llustrating the efficient utilization of physical dimensions to achieve a wide frequency range, the proposed antenna’s broad operational bandwidth, stable radiation characteristics, and compact size make it a promising candidate for various modern wireless technologies. These include satellite and radar communication, 5G and mmWave systems, ultra-wideband (UWB) communication systems, medical imaging, wireless sensor networks (WSN), cognitive radio-based spectrum sensing, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
