Design and Optimization of a Novel Asymmetric Magnetic Barrier PMa-SynRM for Electric Vehicles
This paper presents an optimization design for a novel asymmetric magnetic barrier permanent magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance motor (PMa-SynRM) and analyzes its electromagnetic performance before and after optimization using ANSYS Maxwell simulations. First, a 30 kW, 6-pole symmetric PMa-SynRM was designed based on its operating principles. Then, an asymmetric magnetic barrier structure was introduced by adjusting the opening angle of the magnetic barriers to enhance motor performance. The results show that the peak flux density was reduced from 2.34 T to 2.01 T, the saliency ratio increased, torque ripple decreased by approximately 3%, and the corner speed increased from 983 rpm to 1500 rpm, while the maximum speed rose from 4300 rpm to 5000 rpm. The optimized design significantly improves the electromagnetic performance of the PMa-SynRM, making it more suitable for applications such as new energy vehicles.
