Performance enhancement of surface plasmon resonance-based sensor through platinum diselenide for glucose sensing
Refractive index-based sensors provide high sensitivity and more accuracy for a wide range of analytes across various applications like biomedical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and chemical analysis. This work proposes a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) based refractive index sensor using a Kretschmann configuration under an angle interrogation scheme. A bi-metallic layer of aluminum and gold is used as a plasmonic metal over a coupling prism. Two distinct 2D nanomaterials, platinum diselenide and molybdenum disulfide, are stacked with an optimized thickness on top of these metals to enhance the performance. The transfer matrix and finite element methods are used to calculate reflection characteristics under a TM polarized light of wavelength 1550nm. A high value of Figure of merit 767 RIU⁻¹ with a sensitivity of 176.5°/RIU is observed while sensing glucose concentrations in urine samples. The proposed sensor has the potential for sensing applications across different fields where any phenomenon on the surface leads to refractive index modifications.
