Dynamic Control of DC Microgrid with Model Predictive Controller for Balancing Current Sharing Among Parallel DC-DC Converters
This article presents a model predictive controller for managing DC bus voltage and making sure that generator-based DC-DC converters share current in a balanced way in a DC microgrid. The proposed approach replaces the DC microgrid secondary controllers with a single controller, which lowers sampling time and complexity. Also, the proposed control method allows better stability by continuously optimizing control actions based on current system states and predicted future behavior. The cost function is defined for this DC microgrid system to control the DC bus voltage and balance current sharing among Generator-based DC-DC converters. Additionally, a mathematical equation that shows microgrid system behavior is formulated and analyzed to provide dynamic characteristics. The control performance is confirmed by simulation using MATLAB/SIMULINK software, and the result is compared to the conventional control method.
