Feasibility and Optimization of Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems for Off-Grid Electrification in Durgapur Village, Barishal, Bangladesh
Bangladesh faces significant challenges in providing uninterrupted power supply, particularly in rural areas, hindering sustainable development. While extensive research has focused on renewable energy solutions for Bangladeshi islands, there is limited investigation into energy models for rural communities. This paper presents two hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES) to address the energy crisis in Durgapur Village, Barishal. The first model combines photovoltaic (PV), wind turbines, solar panels, and a diesel generator, while the second model integrates concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) technology instead of traditional PV. Utilizing software called Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewables (HOMER), we optimize these models to determine their feasibility for off-grid electrification in the village. The PV-wind-diesel model (Model 1) is identified as the most suitable solution, offering reliable power generation and a practical approach to mitigate the village's power outages.
