Performance Analysis and Impact of a Grid-Tied 200 kWp Rooftop Solar PV System in Bangladesh

This paper presents a performance analysis of a 200kWp grid-tied solar photovoltaic (PV) system installed on the rooftop of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics in Dhaka. Employing a comprehensive data analysis for December, we evaluated the system's performance ratio, energy generation, and key influencing factors like solar insulation, self-shadowing, and dirt accumulation. The plant achieved a performance ratio of 0.81, indicative of high conversion efficiency, yet operational losses reduced its effectiveness by approximately 15%. Notable findings include a performance loss due to environmental factors, with dirt and shading being significant during peak insolation months. Specifically, our results show a total energy supply of 9,670.5 kWh to the grid, with an average daily final yield of 1.75 hours versus the potential 4.13 hours, highlighting a suboptimal utilization of the solar resource. The system’s average monthly efficiency stood at 7.50%, with a low-capacity factor of 6.9%. This study provides actionable insights to enhance the efficiency of PV installations in Bangladesh through regular maintenance and performance monitoring, underpinning the broader commitment to renewable energy and sustainability in the region.
