Analysis of Carbothermic MgO Reduction in the Radio Frequency Plasma Environment—Part 2: Characteristics of an RF Plasma Jet Operating on Argon, Helium, and Gas Mixtures

This article is devoted to the experimental determination of the enthalpy and temperature of the working fluid at the outlet of an radio frequency (RF) plasma torch operating on argon, helium, and a mixture of argon and helium. These parameters are crucial for the efficiency and rate of solid particle heating in various plasma chemical processes, particularly the direct reduction of magnesium from magnesium oxide. The results can be used for numerical modeling of such processes and for selecting the appropriate plasma gas.
