A generalized normal distribution optimization for optimal location and power of battery energy storage system in distribution system
This study addresses the optimization problem of determining the optimal location and operations of battery energy storage systems (BESS) within a distribution system (DS), taking into account various levels of distributed generation (DG) penetration. The primary objective is to minimize the DS's electricity costs over a typical day. The Generalized Normal Distribution Optimization (GNDO) is employed to identify the optimal BESS location and power over a typical day. The GNDO method is tested on an 18-node DS with photovoltaic penetration. The findings show that optimal BESS allocation considerably reduces electricity costs. Comparative results show that the GNDO outperforms other methods to find the optimal solution. Therefore, GNDO proves its effectiveness in addressing the BESS allocation problem.
