Mental Health in Engineering Students: Investigating the Factors of Depression and Coping Mechanisms

The number of mentally ill students in higher class education is growing up day by day. This problem can lead them to serious and permanent mental problems and suppress their potentiality as well. But the concern is, no one can bring out their mental issues as our society created such a social environment where we can't express our disabilities freely. In our society, mental issues are neglected and no one wants to consider it as a disorder. In this research work, we tried to conduct a survey among Engineering students, in which about 56 students participated (32 male and 24 female) to give answers to our settled questions. Then we tried to investigate the reasons for their depression and tried to find the factors which can improve their mental issues. To process the primary dataset, we used codes related to find factors of depression and factors that can improve these problems. We preprocessed the dataset and then split it. Then we prepared our two target variables and applied some renowned supervised classification models and chose the appropriate model to properly interpret our research findings. Our research work tried to correlate the factors of depression and coping strategy of engineering students.

Abstract

The number of mentally ill students in higher class education is growing up day by day. This problem can lead them to serious and permanent mental problems and suppress their potentiality as well. In our society, mental issues are neglected and no one wants to consider it as a disorder. In this research work, we tried to conduct a survey among Engineering students, in which about 56 students participated (32 male and 24 female) to give answers to our settled questions.
