Overall performance analysis of semi-submersible floating wind turbines in extreme environments
Abstract To study the floating wind turbine’s overall performance in complex marine environments, this paper uses the F2A software. Based on NREL’s 5MW wind turbine and semi-submersible floating platform models, it simulates and calculates the motion response of the floating wind turbine and mooring line tension changes in three extreme marine environments of South China Sea waters. Comparisons show that harsher marine environments mainly increase the vibration degree of each degree of freedom of the floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) and intensify its motion variation amplitude. The standard deviation and maximum value of the tension of the FOWT’s three mooring lines gradually rise with environmental parameter changes. Among them, mooring line No. 2 has a lower safety factor and a higher failure risk.
