An Improved Particle Swarm Optimization-Based Method for Assessing Distributed Photovoltaic Hosting Capacity in Power Grids

The phenomenon of power backflow caused by large-scale distributed photovoltaic integration has led to critical safety issues in medium-voltage distribution networks, including node voltage violations and reverse overload of distribution transformers. To address these challenges, this study establishes a distributed PV hosting capacity assessment model based on multiple constraints, such as power flow balance, voltage deviation, transformer load rate, and line current capacity. Furthermore, an improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is proposed to solve the model. Tests conducted on the IEEE 33 system and a real-world power grid demonstrate that the model effectively evaluates the safety and stability of the grid. Compared to traditional methods, the improved algorithm exhibits superior convergence speed and optimization capability. Under the same constraints, it achieves a higher PV hosting capacity and lower network losses.
