An arithmetic optimization algorithm for the scheduling of a grid-connected microgrid with distributed energy resources
With the growing adoption of microgrids, the challenge of optimizing their operation to enhance energy efficiency and reliability persists, particularly due to the unpredictable nature of renewable energy sources and fluctuating load demands. This research focuses on developing an arithmetic optimization algorithm (AOA) to achieve optimal scheduling of a microgrid equipped with various distributed energy resources (DERs) and battery energy storage systems (BESS), with the goal of minimizing total generation costs. The study explores three scenarios involving a typical grid-connected microgrid over a 24-hour. Results from the study show that the total generation costs are significantly lower when the microgrid actively participates with the main grid. Moreover, the AOA consistently surpasses other methods in all scenarios, proving its superior effectiveness in determining the most cost-efficient generation strategy for the microgrid.
