Grid-Connected Solar-Powered DC Fast Charging Station with Low Voltage Ride-Through Capability
EV batteries are charged at high power levels in the DC fast charging stations. Rapid power consumption during fast charging of electric vehicles is a growing concern that can create stress and instability in the distribution grid. This paper introduces an improved energy management scheme for solar PV-powered DC fast charging station as a solution to this concern by reducing power demand from the distribution network and supporting the network’s voltage recovery during low voltage or fault events. The comprehensive model of a DC fast-charging station has been built in Simulink, and its controllers have been designed to incorporate the proposed energy management scheme. A detailed simulation has been carried out to assess the model’s performance during normal and fault conditions.
