Design and Optimization of a Thin, Multi-Resonant Metamaterial Absorber for Enhanced Electromagnetic Absorption in C and X Bands

This paper illustrates, a novel metamaterials absorber (MMA) with a symmetrical polygonal resonator that is tailored for use in the multiband applications. A 14 mm x 14 mm FR-4 substrate, a copper ground, and a resonator layer at the top and bottom layer of the substrate serve as the foundation for the compact construction. The expected unit cell's design enhanced effective medium ratio (EMR) indecates the MMA's compactness. The simulation result produced by CST Studio Suite shows notable absorptivity levels of 99.99%, 99.74%, and 91% at the corresponding frequencies of 11.048, 6.824, and 4.408 GHz. The metamaterial absorber described in this work shows significant potential for use in radar surveillance, satellite communications, and other defense-related applications as they work in multiband.
