The social epistemology of data-as-documents in knowledge organization

This work explores the social epistemology of data, particularly research data, as an entity that can and should be subject to the theories and affordances of knowledge organization. It draws on the work of Margaret Egan and Jesse Shera to provide grounding for the idea of data as a document, by which we argue it should be subject to the notion of bibliographic control.

Abstract

This work explores the social epistemology of data, particularly research data, as an entity that can and should be subject to the theories and affordances of knowledge organization. It draws on the work of Margaret Egan and Jesse Shera to provide grounding for the idea of data as a document, by which we argue it should be subject to the notion of bibliographic control.
