LIBRAS NA ENFERMAGEM: SUPERANDO BARREIRAS PARA UM ATENDIMENTO INCLUSIVO

ABSTRACT This study addresses the challenges faced by nursing professionals in providing care to people with hearing impairments, with an emphasis on communication difficulties and the importance of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) as an essential tool for effective, inclusive and humanized care. Hearing impairment affects millions of Brazilians and represents a significant barrier to access to health services. Through a literature review, the main difficulties faced by nursing professionals were identified, such as lack of preparation, lack of training in Libras and prejudiced attitudes, which compromise the quality of care. The research also showed that the lack of correct communication strategies compromises the anamnesis, then the professional patient bond and the safety of the care provided. The urgent need for training health professionals in Libras and for public policies that guarantee the effective inclusion of the deaf community in the health system is highlighted. It is concluded that nursing training needs to include the study of different types of communication, ensuring care that respects the rights, dignity and individuality of deaf patients. Introduction: Libras is essential to ensure inclusion and equity in nursing care for deaf patients. The lack of training of professionals compromises communication and the quality of care. This paper discusses the importance of training in Libras in the health area. Methodology: Literature review with searches in the databases Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Scientific Electronic Library Online and Web of Science and National Library of Medicine. Results: Initially, 35 articles were selected from the databases, of which 15 were excluded. After reading the remaining articles in full and applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 20 articles were selected to compose the final sample. Final Considerations: This study highlights the importance of communication for deaf patients, for complete and effective nursing care. Contributions to nursing practice: The study contributes to the understanding of the role of the nurse in effective communication for all patients. Keywords: LIBRAS, Nursing, Care, Inclusion.
