THE IMPACT OF MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS ON EMPLOYEES: A CASE STUDY OF BANK OF BARODA, VIJAYA BANK AND DENA BANK

This study examines the human resource implications of the merger between Bank of Baroda, Vijaya Bank, and Dena Bank, with a focus on employee experiences across four dimensions: job security, cultural integration, career development, and internal communication. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research collected quantitative data from 1,000 employees and qualitative insights from 50 semi-structured interviews. Findings reveal significant concerns about job redundancy, particularly among junior staff and those from the merged banks. Cultural integration emerged as a substantial challenge, reflecting difficulties in aligning distinct organisational identities. While some employees reported new career opportunities and access to training, others experienced stagnation. Communication during the merger process was perceived as inconsistent, contributing to uncertainty and the spread of informal information. The study underscores integrating employee-centric strategies into merger planning and execution. It recommends transparent communication, job security assurance programs, structured cultural integration efforts, and equitable access to upskilling initiatives to facilitate a smoother transition and improve organisational outcomes.
