English pun in the TV series “2 Broke Girls” in a translatological aspect

The aim of this research is to determine the frequency of use of translation techniques in the process of recoding English puns in the TV series “2 Broke Girls” into Russian, depending on their type. The scientific novelty of the research lies in identifying the most effective means of recoding English puns based on the material of the TV series “2 Broke Girls”. The research revealed that in the group of lexical puns based on homonymy, the dominant translation techniques were compensation, literal translation, and substitutions. In the group of lexical puns based on polysemy, such techniques for recoding puns while preserving the comic effect as selection of a contextual equivalent, compensation, and literal translation prevail. In the group of phraseological puns, there is a tendency to use literal translation with a loss of comic effect. It has been established that in cases of recreating a phraseological pun in the target language, the selection of an analogue was used.
