Development of Fishing Areas to Improve The Economy and Ecology of the Sayung Village Community, Demak Regencies
Abstract The sustainability of fisheries resources is largely determined by the operation of the fishing gear used by fishermen. By using of active fishing gear such as push net and small bottom trawl in waters, the balance of the ecosystem in these waters will be disturbed because many juvenile fish are caught and damaged the bottom of the waters when the fishing gear are operated. On the other hand, regulations regarding fishing lanes in the 1A area also prohibit the operation of active fishing gears. The efforts to replace fishing gear by the government are always intensified and socialized. However, the fact is fishermen are still used fishing gear which is prohibited because it requires other additional costs and can reduce the catch when they use the replace of fishing gear. The development of a combination from fixed bamboo sticks and rock attractors can make many benefits such as fish shelter from push net vessel and small bottom trawl, feeding area, fishing spots, and green mussel cultivation in Morosari Village, Sayung Demak. This research aims to identify the benefits of a combination of fixed bamboo stick and rock attractor which provides ecological and economic benefits as well as management strategies. After four months of installing fixed bamboo sticks and rock attractors which carried out at KUB Mina Bahari, the result from the observations there were some types of species associated with it: Barramundi ( Lates calcarifer ) by 74%, Spotted s napper ( Lutjanus sp ) by 8%, Eel-tailed catfish ( Plotosus canius ) by 9%, Grouper ( Epinephelus coioides ) by 9%, Fourfinger threadfin ( Eleutheronema tetradactylum ), Spotted Scat ( Scatophagus argus ), and Sagor Catfish ( Hexanematichthys sagor ). While the biota associated with rock attractors are Snapping Shrimp (Alpheus sp), Cleaner Shrimp (Lysmata sp), and green shell (Perna viridis). The results of green mussel cultivation produce in a range of 205 kg/year. Economic benefits in the period of August to November 2021 which has total income from fishing locations at KUB Mina Bahari is IDR. 29,200,000 with total of 73 vessel visits, and economic benefit from green mussel cultivation in a range of IDR. 950,000 (approximately USD 66,5).
