Dynamics of Seagrass Meadow Ecosystem Health Changes in Tukak Beach, Bangka Island
Abstract Seagrass ecosystems play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of coastal ecosystems and contribute to climate change mitigation. As part of the blue carbon ecosystem, seagrass meadows are capable of absorbing and storing carbon dioxide in their biomass and sediments. In addition, seagrass provides critical habitats for various marine species, including spawning grounds for fish and invertebrates. However, this ecosystem faces serious threats due to human activities and climate change, leading to its degradation. The methods used in this study include observing seagrass cover through 100-meter transects. The results show a significant decline in seagrass cover, from 36.69% in 2022 to 17.64% in 2024, placing the seagrass condition in the poor category. This study highlights the importance of better management of the seagrass ecosystem in Tukak Coastal. Furthermore, ecosystem restoration efforts are necessary to restore ecosystem functions and prevent the loss of biodiversity.
