The current state of the burbot population (Lota Lota (Linnaues, 1758)) of the Ob river within the boundaries of the Altai territory

The current state of the burbot population (Lota lota (Linnaues, 1758)) of the Ob River within the boundaries of the Altai Territory is given. Long-term data on commercial catch, size, age and sex composition of catches, growth rate are analyzed, nutrition and reproduction issues are considered. In recent years, the amount of commercial burbot withdrawal in the region has been close to the values of the early 50s of the XX century — before the regulation of the Ob River runoff. The share of burbot in the total structure of commercial ichthyofauna does not exceed 2.0%. At the moment, the biomass of the burbot reserve is below the target, and the state of the fishery is underexploitation. The commercial part of the burbot herd consists of individuals from 3+ to 8+ years old, the basis of catch is formed by fish aged 5+ years. The annual increase in body length from 3+ to 8+ years was 45–67 mm (average 55), the annual growth rate of body length was 7–14% (average 11.2). The annual increase in body weight in the same period was 178–660 g (average 440), the annual growth rate was 14.3–58.8% (on average 43). The mass-length relationship shows a relative deceleration of the length increments compared with the mass increment (constant b is close to 3). A comparative assessment of the growth rate of burbot in some water bodies in the south of Western Siberia shows a slightly slower growth in the lake. Teletskoye in younger age groups, which may be due to the poverty of the reservoir’s food supply. The basis of adult nutrition is fish (up to 98%). The average index of stomach filling in October-November was 146%. The indicators of absolute individual fertility naturally increase with the growth of females. In the studied individuals, 10 species of parasites belonging to monogeneans, cestodes, trematodes, barnacles, mollusks, leeches and crustaceans were noted in the Upper Ob.
