Javeta pallida (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) on Phoenix dactylifera in India: Bioecology, damage assessment and management strategies
Date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) is an important crop in dry regions, but it is now facing damage from a new pest- the datepalm leafminer, Javeta pallida Baly (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae). This review summarizes what is currently known about the pest, including its life cycle, how it damages leaflets, and ways to control it. It describes the appearance at each stage of development, its egg-laying and leaf-mining behavior, and which parts of the palm are most affected. This pest causes damage in Gujarat. An integrated pest management (IPM) approach is suggested, combining farming practices, natural enemies, and safe use of chemicals. The review also points out areas where more research is needed, such as how the pest population changes over time and how climate may affect it. This information can help farmers to manage this growing threat.
