On the Understanding and Structure of Civic Position in the General Theoretical Dimension

The article notes that the current federal state educational standards of higher education define civic position as the universal competence of the graduate. However, a clear understanding of the nature of this category in modern science has not yet been developed. The author explores civic position from the point of view of philosophy, sociology, psychology and pedagogy, while drawing attention to the lack of certainty in its understanding. It is proposed to consider a civic position as a kind of human worldview, characterized by an inextricable connection with civic duty, responsibility, patriotism, humanism. It is noted that a person›s obligations to society and the state are an integral part of his status and the legal culture of modern society. At the same time, the worldview simultaneously acts as an internal component of human consciousness, and an external factor affecting its formation. Being externally objectified in the form of a group or social, the worldview affects the individual. In this regard, education and training come to the fore as determining factors in the formation of a civic position. The lack of a unified approach to determining the structure of civic position is emphasized. The author proposes to distinguish three main components. The cognitive element of civic position characterizes knowledge about the phenomena of state and public life, their value and social significance (the rule of law, civil society, social norms, law). The value element includes a system of conscious and accepted by the individual values and ideals that determine the goals of his activity (the political and legal culture of the individual). The behavioral element of civic position is associated with a person›s awareness of the social significance of his behavior, its consequences (participation in the management of public affairs, volunteering, countering terrorism, etc.). In conclusion, the author’s definition of civic position is proposed and the special role of higher education in its formation is noted.
