Trends in Glucagon-Like Peptide 1 Receptor Agonists Utilization for Weight Management in Children
Background: The increasing prevalence of pediatric obesity has led to a need for effective treatment strategies beyond lifestyle interventions. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) have emerged as pharmacologic options for adolescents with obesity, with liraglutide and semaglutide receiving U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for this indication. However, real-world utilization patterns, effectiveness, and safety in pediatric populations remain understudied outside of clinical trials, which are essential for the development of clinical guidelines, health care policy, and future research.
