JOGOS DE AZAR ON-LINE E A LAVAGEM DE DINHEIRO: DESAFIOS E MEDIDAS DE PREVENÇÃO NO ORDENAMENTO JURÍDICO BRASILEIRO

The growing popularity of online gambling in Brazil, mostly operated by foreign platforms, has raised concerns related to financial crimes, especially money laundering. The lack of specific regulation for these platforms hinders oversight and control of transactions, creating a favorable environment for illicit activities. From this scenario, the central research question emerged: is Brazilian legislation effective in combating money laundering in online gambling? Thus, the main objective of this study is to analyze the challenges and preventive measures related to money laundering on online gambling platforms in Brazil. To achieve this, the following specific objectives are established: identify the mechanisms used for money laundering through online gambling platforms; assess the current Brazilian legislation, focusing on Law No. 9.613/1998 and its application in the digital context; and propose recommendations to improve control and prevention measures, considering technological advancements and international best practices. The methodology adopts a qualitative, descriptive, and bibliographic approach, based on legal doctrines, scientific articles, legislation, jurisprudence, and official documents, in order to promote a critical analysis of the adequacy of Brazilian norms to the new digital dynamics.
