Spatial and temporal distribution monitoring of photovoltaic land based on high-resolution remote sensing time series images

As a new energy source that utilizes solar energy, photovoltaic are of great significance in achieving carbon neutrality goals. At the same time, photovoltaic land also has a high demand for land space and a high intensity of land use. The advantages of remote sensing technology, such as a wide detection range, fast data acquisition capability, unrestricted observation capability by ground conditions, and all-weather observation capability, can effectively monitor and analyze the photovoltaic industry. The long-term dynamic monitoring and analysis of the spatial and temporal distribution of photovoltaic land using high-resolution remote sensing time-series images have important reference value for the formulation and effectiveness evaluation of photovoltaic land policies. This study uses high-resolution remote sensing time-series images from 2017 to 2022 to monitor and analyze the long-term spatial and temporal distribution of Zhangbei County in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, a typical area with a large amount of newly added photovoltaic land in China in the past five years. The results show that in terms of spatial location, the photovoltaic construction in Zhangbei County is mainly concentrated and contiguous, mainly in the northern region. Taking full advantage of the flat terrain in the central and northern parts of the county, the spatial distribution is reasonable. In terms of time distribution, a total of 452 photovoltaic land have been extracted over the past five years, with a cumulative area of 80433 acres. Among them, 2020 was the year with the fastest growth in photovoltaic construction, with 142 new construction spots extracted from images, covering an area of 30885 acres. After the construction trend and carbon neutrality target were proposed, the county formulated policies to promote photovoltaic projects. This study explores the use of high-resolution remote sensing time-series images to monitor the Spatial and temporal distribution of photovoltaic land, providing technical support for the formulation and effectiveness evaluation of renewable energy land use policies such as photovoltaic land.
