Feature Reconstruction from Point Clouds using Creo Parametric Toolkit API
In this work we present a primitive-based reconstruction method directly from a point cloud that efficiently manages to produce a history-based parametric 3D model. Utilizing the PTC Creo Toolkit API, we implement a plugin for the reconstruction of parametric surfaces and solid features within the solid modeling environment. A key advantage of the method is that it enhances the software's geometric representation and parametric structure in order to create a history-based 3D parametric model directly from a point cloud. Thus, the reconstructed 3D model can effectively communicate its design intent during (re)design tasks enabling designers to perform all necessary tasks within a single software environment.
