Towards Psycho-Cognitive Modelling of Mobile Text Entry Behaviour

We present a novel model for simulating human text entry behaviour, based on psycho-cognitive theory. The model marks a significant departure from statistical abstractive models in past research, providing higher explanatory power of human behaviour in planning, target finding and target selection during text entry. We describe the formulation and implementation of the model, and confirm its validity based on hypotheses derived from extant literature. We release the model as open-source for use by the community.

Abstract

We present a novel model for simulating human text entry behaviour, based on psycho-cognitive theory. The model marks a significant departure from statistical abstractive models in past research, providing higher explanatory power of human behaviour in planning, target finding and target selection during text entry. We describe the formulation and implementation of the model, and confirm its validity based on hypotheses derived from extant literature. We release the model as open-source for use by the community.
