Effects of hyperbaric oxygenation in macro- and oligo-elements composition in kidney tissue
Maintaining the concentration of macro- and oligo-elements is an important component of the body fluids homeostasis. The importance of these elements is reflected in the wide spectrum of effects that changes in their concentration have, from those detectable only at the cellular level, all the way to the occurrence of death. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a therapeutic method in which, through inhalation of 100% oxygen in an environment with elevated values of atmospheric pressure, better oxygenation of the body’s blood and tissues is ensured. However, studies of the effect of HBOT on different animal models have shown contradictory results, due to the complexity of the mechanisms of action of HBOT, with a certain number of side effects in the case of an inadequate therapeutic regimen. The aim of our research was to examine the impact of HBOT treatment on healthy kidney tissue, in the context of changes in the concentration of certain macro- and oligo-elements.
