Smart Charging for PEVs to Enhance Radial Distribution Network Performance with Placement of Multiple DGs
Optimal charging strategies are the key solution for integrating Electric Vehicles (EVs) into the distribution network (DN) to prevent congestion and mismatched power demands. In this paper, the impact of different charging scenarios of EVs on the performance of the distribution network is analyzed in the first stage which aims to balance the grid load and minimize the active power losses and node voltage deviations. In the second stage, the reactive power set points of the Distributed Generators (DGs) are optimized to minimize active power losses and node voltage deviation in DN. A 33-node radial distribution network (RDN) is used for the study. Time-series power flow optimization results reveal that optimized reactive power support from DGs and adopting smart charging of EVs in vehicle-to-grid (V2G) mode can effectively minimize voltage violations, and ensure stable network operation despite increasing DGs and EV penetration.
