Optimization Algorithm-Based Biofuel Blending Scheme and Its Stability Prediction
The blending ratio of marine fuel is closely related to both cost and quality, and biofuels face similar challenges. To develop a more effective blending scheme and address issues such as significant quality margins and the potential for unqualified products that may require adjustments during manual formulation based on experience, an optimization algorithm was used on the biofuel blending scheme calculation. The objective function focused on minimizing costs, while quality conditions served as constraints. The optimized formulation for the blending schemes were calculated. Compatibility was assessed through spot tests, revealing that the blended products received Class I or II. However, stability issues emerged when large quantities of biodiesel were added to a blend of hydrogenated residue and desolidified slurry, leading to delamination during prolonged storage. The inclusion of specific light diesel fuels can mitigate the deterioration rate of the blended fuel and enhance stability. By employing the gradient property method for scheme verification and comparing results from long period and rapid stability tests, it was found that the B20 exhibited superior stability. Furthermore, the rapid stability of the six schemes aligned with the trends observed in long period stability changes, allowing for the prediction of blended biofuel stability during storage and transportation using the rapid stability evaluation method.
