Advantages of Smart EV Charging for Power Loss Reduction in Low-Voltage Distribution Networks

In the context of rising electricity consumption, the widespread adoption of electric vehicles and massive de-ployment of distributed generation, improving energy efficiency and minimizing power losses in low-voltage grids are essential challenges for the electric power industry. This study evaluates the performance of a residential distribution network under varying penetration levels of electric vehicles and photovoltaic generation in different combinations. The analysis highlights the effectiveness of grid-aware charging of electric vehicles in minimizing power losses compared to uncontrolled charging. The findings provide insights for grid planning and infrastructural investment prioritization.
