Impact of BESS Prices on Renewable Energy Integrated Public EV Charging Stations: Feasibility Analysis
Private charging is currently the most popular, but to support the EV market, public charging requires more attention. However, public chargers mainly rely on the national grid, risking instability and reduced profits. Integrating renewable energy and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in public stations can address these issues but requires careful sizing. This study examines the technical and economic impacts of BESS on public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS), assessing project feasibility and efficiency. Results show grid-connected EVCS is about five times more profitable (2.5 million vs. 500 thousand). While hybrid station remains unviable due to current technology, a 67% drop in BESS prices would make standalone configuration more attractive, shifting the most profitable BESS size from zero to larger setups.
