Modeling Industry Power Systems with Integrated Distributed Energy Resources

This paper presents modelling and integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) using a software such as Electrical Transient Analyzer Program (ETAP) to improve the efficiency of the Industry Power System and save cost by reducing power supply from the grid. The DERs used in this work are solar photovoltaic (PV) system, battery energy storage system (BESS) and electric vehicle (EV) charger. Each DERs components were further studied in this work to ensure efficiency compatibility and reduce power loss when interacting with the power system. A bi-directional rectifier used to support the interaction by enabling the flow of AC and DC power between the power system and the DERs component. Multiple scenarios of different load variations were performed to observe the efficiency and reliability of the DERs components. The results from these scenarios were analyzed and further studied to form a peak shaving curve and an estimated economic cost of this work.
