Floral Classification Revolution: Harnessing Deep Learning for Precision Identification

In the light of agriculture and conservation of flora species, it is relevant to understand how computer runs automated flower classification using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). There has been constant pressure of Accreditation in automated identification methods because conventional plant identification methods take time, are tedious and can be tiresome in addition to being inaccurate. Originally, this study is designed to use deep learning technologies to solve the flower species classification problem and, thus, can offer a more optimal solution to support ecological studies, conservation strategies, and farm management. The CNN model developed in this study was trained using a dataset of 4,220 images sourced from Kaggle, representing five distinct flower species: the examples of flowers are daisy, dandelion, roses, sunflowers, and tulips. By adopting the data augmentation techniques, applying image preprocessing and following a structured training strategy, the proposed model was tested to yield a classification accuracy of 74%. By doing so, the results provide preliminary evidence of the suitability of deep learning models for botanical research, and show a definitive improvement since they are much faster and more accurate than conventional techniques used in plant research. Consequently, this study emphasises the benefits of applying AI technologies in environmental tracking, agronomic activities and uses of technology in education. On the one hand, AI in flower classification can break through current approaches to plant species identification, monitoring, and documentation, thereby enhancing the prospects for better protection of biodiversity and more sustainable agro-industrial production. Moreover, conclusions made in this research offer a good basis for further establishment of AI and amalgamation of the latter into different environment sectors to reveal the perspective of future AI development in both research and practice.
