BOSPHORUS AND DARDANELLES: MISSED ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES FOR RUSSIA
The article is devoted to the historical analysis of Russia’s missed economic opportunities in the Bosphorus and Dardanelles Straits. The works devoted to the Bosphorus operation, which was never destined to be carried out, are analyzed. In this regard, Russia missed the opportunity to gain control over the straits, providing 4% of world trade turnover, which periodically led to economic consequences associated with restrictions periodically imposed by unfriendly countries on Russia, especially during military operations. As a result, the author comes to the conclusion that the main reason for the missed opportunities were internal and external factors, including the active policy of “containing” Russia by France and Great Britain.
