Efficacy of ultra x, sonic irrigation, and passive ultrasonic irrigation on the removal of triple antibiotic paste from root canal walls: An in vitro study
Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of Ultra X, Sonic Irrigation, and Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation (PUI) on the removal of Triple Antibiotic Paste (TAP) from root canal walls. Materials and Methodology: Thirty-six human teeth were decoronated, and canals prepared with SuperEndo rotary files to size F3. The teeth were divided into three experimental groups (N=10) and two controls (N=3). TAP was placed in the canals, and after 21 days, the groups were irrigated using Ultra X, Sonic Irrigation, or PUI. Positive and negative controls had TAP left or none, respectively. After sectioning, tap remaining in the mesial halves was assessed at 30x magnification using a 4-grade scale. Data were analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests. Results: Ultra X outperformed PUI and Sonic Irrigation in removing TAP from the apical and middle thirds, but no significant differences were found in the coronal third (p>0.05). Conclusion: Ultra X showed better ability to remove tap from apical third compared to PUI and Sonic.
